ScarletMadeline's Makeup Mastermind Looks At The mtvU Woodie Award Nominees: Karen O And Anjulie
This week I thought I would talk about some of the nominees from the mtvU Woodie Awards, Karen O and Anjulie in particular. After you read about these makeup tips to get Karen O and Anjulie's looks, then go cast your vote for the mtvU Woodie Awards nominees and watch on December 4th to see if they won! But, for now stay here and learn about their look.
KAREN O: (nominated for mtvU best video Woodie for Yeah Yeah Yeah's 'Heads Will Roll')
I LOVE Karen's look (and music). In today's society, you do not see many women with short hair and I think its a shame! I think Karen pulls off this look fabulously and I love her signature red lips with lots of black liner.
To get her look: - Apply shadow base all over your eyelid from your lash line up to your brow. I would also apply a small amount under your eye to lightening up any dark circles that you may have. To set the shadow base, cover the shadow base with the same powder you put all over your face. - GROOM THOSE EYEBROWS (I'm assuming Karen has nicely groomed brows even though you cant see them in this picture)! - Apply a very light layer of matte white eyeshadow all over your eyelid (lash line up to your brow). Make sure you blend it really well with the face powder on your eye, because there is a very SMALL amount on her eyes. - Hold the edge of a tissue under your eye and hold it into the shape of a cat eye. The tissue will collect dust and keep your cat eye straight. - With the tissue held up to your eye, apply a matte or very slightly pearly silver shadow under your eye (as a blended liner) and on your lid (from just above the crease and down to your lash line) then pull it out into the cat eye shape. - KEEP THAT TISSUE THERE and apply a very light layer of matte black eyeshadow under your eye (as a blended eyeliner) and blend with the silver. Then apply the black color more heavily from the crease down to your lash line and pull it out into the cat eye and blend it REALLY well with the silver. Blending it will create a very smokey look instead of a super dark blob. - Go back over all of your shadow edges and blend them really well. - Apply black eyeliner pencil on the top and bottom water lines. - OPTIONAL: Apply a thin line of liquid liner to the top lash line of your eye for a more bold look. - Finish off the eye with black vegan mascara. - Apply a light pink blush on the apple of your cheeks. Karen has a bit of an 80's feel to her blush (its high up on her cheeks), which totally works for her because of her edgy haircut. I would stray away from applying blush all the way up your cheek like that, unless you are going for the super rock star look. I always try and put my blush directly on the apple of my cheek, high up on the cheek can make you look like a grandma if you aren't careful. - Apply a red sheer lipstick.

ANJULIE: (nominated for mtvU best video Woodie for Anjulie 'Boom')
Anjulie is very pretty and has a great subtle look that would be great for a show or school. This is the perfect example of wearing a bolder lipstick then eye makeup to make her lips pop!
GET HER LOOK:
- Apply shadow base and groom those brows! - Apply a slightly pearly golden taupe color all over your eyelid from your lash line up to your brows. Apply that same color under your eye as a blended liner. - Apply a darker matte brown color under your eye as a blended liner and blend it well with the taupe color that is already there. - Finish off the eyes by applying a very thin brown liquid liner on your top lash line and apply a very small amount of brown mascara on top and bottom. - Apply a rose blush on the apple of your cheeks. - Finish off the look by applying a bubblegum pink lipstick.
With 2009 coming to an end, what new artists do you like the best from this year? What makeup advice do you need or want? What is your favorite color eyeshadow?
KARRRRENNNNNN! I love that she's got a kind of old-Hollywood or flapper look even though her music is so wonderfully noisy and fuzzy. I'll probably not try this look, though...I can't afford the makeup!
i like brown eyeshadow. i'd love if you did a feature on pink and lacey mosley. i need advice on what eyeshadow colors look good on me and how much to apply
bahahaha i just adore her and her music
