ScarletMadeline's Makeup Mastermind Talks Red Lipstick, Sherri Dupree Bemis and Katy Perry
We judge people on the arrangements of their features and their style. Care to tell me that you don't? Well, I would say that you might not judge your friends on their beauty, but you certainly pick up a magazine cover or check out a musician on stage and say "damn that girl looks awful in that outfit" or "wow what was she thinking wearing that much eyeshadow". This round of ScarletMadeline's Makeup Mastermind I wanted to talk about cat eyes so I am using Katy Perry and Sherri Dupree from Eisley.
Sherri Dupree Bemis:

Sherri is a member of the band Eisley and she is absolutely adorable. She and her sisters always look adorable on stage and wear their makeup well! Sherri very frequently wears a mini cat eye made with black liquid liner (Darla Eye Endurance Liner). This is a very simple and beautiful look for school, concerts or a date.
To get the look:
-Apply a very light matte brown eyeshadow on the crease of your upper eyelid and blend it out into a mini cat eye. To collect the dust from the shadow use a tissue as a straight edge (for the cat eye shape). This is a great way to cheat and get a FABULOUS cat eye angle.
-Apply a thick black line of liquid liner to your upper lash line. Then you can use the line of brown shadow (that you made with the tissue straight edge) and follow that with the liquid liner to create a mini cat eye. Using the brown eyeshadow line will help you make both sides the same.
-Apply that same light matte brown eyeshadow under your eye as a subtle eyeliner.
-Finish the eye off with some mascara.
- For your cheeks, add a nice light pink blush to your cheek bones. Dont apply the blush underneath your cheek bones. This is a HUGE pet peve of mine, that look is so old fashioned and dated. Not only is it way out of fashion but its not flattering. Make sure to apply blush to the apple of your cheek, and you will look fabulous.
Do you have a favorite color lipstick? I absolutely love bright red lipstick. This is very popular this fall, so work it ladies! If you aren't into the intensity of red lipstick, but still want to be up to date with your makeup trends try nude lipstick. That is very in this fall as well!
Tips for back to school makeup:
-This fall everything is about one intense makeup feature. For instance, if your eye makeup is super done up keep the lipstick nude. If your eye makeup is more subtle (like Sherri's) wear a red lipstick.
Katy Perry:

This picture is from Katy's music video for "Waking Up In Vegas." Obviously most of us are not Vegas show girls but this look is HOT. If you are looking to wear this look in the fall make sure to down play the lips if you have flashy eyes like this picture. Wear nude lipstick and it will make your eye makeup stick out even more :)
To achieve this fabulous look:
- Fill in those eyebrows! Katy's eyebrows look great in this picture because they have been groomed and filled in.
HINT: Always fill in your brows a few shades lighter then your hair (Katys brows are brown and her hair is black) This will prevent you from looking like a hooker or Groucho Marx (pictured below).

(YIKES!)
- Katy's eye makeup style is my favorite type of makeup to do. I absolutely love this look! First take a taupe matte color and apply it all over your eyelid.
- Make a straight edge out of a tissue and hold it against your face in a triangle cat eye shape. This is one of the most useful tricks that I have learned from doing makeup. Once you start using a tissue under and next to your eye to collect dust and create shapes you will never stop, its so convenient.
- Use that tissue and apply a mid-tone matte gray color from your lash line up past the crease in your lid and drag it out into a triangle cat eye shape. Blend it in with the taupe color above your eyelid crease.
- Keep using that tissue and apply a black or dark gray eyeshadow to the outer corners of each eye and pull out into the same triangle as you did with the gray.
- Blend the black color with the gray gradually.
-Apply that same gray shadow under your eye as an eyeliner. If you want to apply some black pencil eyeliner too that is up to you. Lots of girls make the mistake to apply WAY too much black eyeliner. This is not always flattering. Dark colors make your eyes look tiny, light colors make them look wider. That is why Katy does not have a TON of black liner under her eye. She does how ever have black eyeliner applied to the upper inner eyelid. This helps hide the fact that she is wearing fake lashes.
- To finish off the eyeshadow you have the option to add glitter. The glitter that Katy has on is HUGE, I would look for a finer glitter to apply over the top.
- Apply mascara to the top and bottom lashes. You can also add some fabulous false lashes :)
- Katy's makeup artist was definitely trying to make her look like a show girl and intensify her cheek bones. She did this by applying her blush to the lower apple of her cheek bone and under it as well. I hate blush under cheek bones! Of course Katy couldn't look ugly if she tried, so I will let it go.
- You can finish this look off with red lipstick but I advise against it. Go with nude lipstick if you are planning on making your eyeshadow real intense like this.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks Makeup Masterminds. Leave a comment or a note on my page letting me know whose makeup you would like for me to look at and give you tips on.
